A história do café vem desde o século IX. O café é originário da Etiópia e espalhou-se através do Egito e da Europa.

Conta a lenda que um pastor chamado Kaldi observou que as suas cabras ficavam mais espertas ao comer as folhas e os frutos do cafeeiro. O pastor experimentou os frutos e sentiu algo diferente. A introdução do café na Europa teve início em Veneza, onde o primeiro café público, chamado "Café Florian", abriu em 1645.

Em Portugal, o café foi introduzido no século XVIII, durante o reinado de D. João V. Durante o século XVIII apareceram os primeiros cafés públicos inspirados nas tertúlias francesas.

Coffee

The history of coffee comes from the 9th century. Coffee comes from Ethiopia and it spread through Egypt and Europe.

Legend has it that a shepherd named Kaldi noticed that his goats were smarter when eating the leaves and fruits of the coffee tree. The sheperd experienced the fruits and felt something different. The introduction of coffee in Europe began in Venice, where the first public café, called "Café Florian", opened in 1645.

In Portugal, coffee was introduced in the 18th century, during the reign of King João V. During the 18th century the first public cafés appeared inspired by the French tertulias.
